Here’s another work online from home mom from Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines.

Let’s see what Marie’s been doing as an online freelancer working as a virtual assistant and how she maintained to be successful on the global market.

1. When and how did you start working online as a freelancer?

I started mid 2012, I was almost 2 years married having my own family that time. I am not fond of staying at home and earn nothing because I was only 19 when I started earning and living on my own providing all my needs. But my life has changed, now as a mom & a wife.
Early that year, my husband heard about this online career opportunities and had the chance to invest for the computer set (second hand), smartbro stick & weekly load for me to get started. Plus I was more than keen to help earn so all that brought me the determination to explore what’s in store for me. Always having the willingness to learn, initiative to move on no matter what.

2. Do you have any background when you started applying for jobs?

I studied BSN at Ateneo de Cagayan when I was in college (undergraduate) + the passion in medical field, which helped me gain this medical billing & coding skill. And, I have worked in TeleTech Holdings, Inc. last 2006, so I have this customer service & tech support background.

3. What are the biggest challenges you faced when dealing with clients from other countries?

Not being paid on hours worked, few impatient clients & as online freelancer, there are times when you almost don’t have tasks to work which means no $ to earn. So always, always do something to market yourself on or offline.

4. What has been your most interesting project?

Being a virtual assistant to doctors.

5. Can you share some of the strange/weird job/s you accepted working online?

So far I remember one, I didn’t accept it though. “Client” was negotiating with me through Skype, asking me to send photos and telling me to model something.

6. Perks in becoming an online freelancer.

Countless.. Freedom, flexibility, being your own boss, everyday with the kids at home, earning more, A LOT of things you can learn anyway you want, very fulfilling, etc.

7. Advice you can give for newbies.

Always ask & thank God for wisdom.

You’re facing the INTERNET. Anything you need to know, YOU CAN. Before you engage into a contract, examine yourself and the client. If you think, you’ll really LOVE the tasks – then go for it! Do your best.
